GHIN
Why would I want to have a golf handicap
A handicap makes for fair competition between golfers of different abilities.
And it will allow you to track your progress (whether good or bad) as you get more experience playing the game.
Having a handicap index will also keep you from getting a reputation as a sandbagger. You definitely don’t what that label”. If you show up and say “Oh, I’m around a 16,” and then proceed to shoot 80. You won’t get an invite back. Get real! It’s the only way to prevent yourself from becoming a bagger with a bad reputation. By the way, sandbagger is a cheater.
A handicap index lets you play different courses and new ones and still be able to compare how you played. It might be a really hard course where naturally it takes more strokes. and an index will tell you if you played your normal game or if you did fantastic in that really hard course.
Maybe I don’t think I’m good enough to keep a handicap?
Well, you are missing out in a lot of fun if you don’t have one. Because a handicap index levels the playing field, it means golfers of different abilities can play together. Playing while using your handicap index to adjust scores means even the worst golfer who has a great day can beat a great golfer having a normal day. That is what makes using handicap indexes so much fun. It is what allows golfers of all levels to play in the same tournament and have a chance. It is what allowed buddies who golf together not get discouraged.
